“As our faces disappear from this mural, our lives are fading away in foreign prisons.”
On July 20th, the Bring Our Families Home Campaign, a campaign led by family members of Americans wrongfully detained or held hostage abroad, unveiled a large-scale public wheat paste mural in the Georgetown neighborhood of Washington, D.C. The mural, designed and installed by Fulbright alumnus and artist Isaac Campbell, captured the faces of 18 Americans held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad, Emad being one of them.
The mural, just minutes from the White House, captured the hearts of thousands of supporters not only in Washington, DC, but around the globe. As a long time D.C. resident, Emad’s face and quote on this mural is a reminder that even ordinary innocent Americans can be targeted and wrongfully detained for no reason other than their American citizenship.
